Back on Duty, but Under a Cloud After a Death

A woman, pregnant and clearly in distress inside an Au Bon Pain store in Brooklyn, needed medical help. Two city medical workers, waiting in line, refused to provide it; the woman eventually died.

That has been the accepted version of what happened on Dec. 9, an event that has brought condemnation from the pregnant woman’s mother and the mayor, an investigation by the district attorney’s office and a suspension without pay for the two city workers.

That suspension ends Thursday, when the two workers, Jason Green and Melisa Jackson, are to be reinstated.

Jason Green and Melisa Jackson, at their lawyer's office Wednesday, say the accusations against them are “lies and fabrications.”

On Wednesday, the two spoke publicly for the first time since the woman’s death.
