The increasing diversity of the East Bay makes the region appear like a melting pot, but many of its avenues, blocks and cul-de-sacs remain surprisingly segregated, according to an analysis of how people are grouped by neighborhood.

Counties immediately south and east of Nashville have experienced explosive growth in the past 10 years, becoming a little less white and more diverse in the process, new census data show.

Next year will mark a key milestone in the black economic empowerment journey in South Africa.

Kwanzaa is a seven-day holiday that begins December 26 and runs through January 1. It is a cultural, not religious holiday whose goal is to reinforce African traditions and culture for African-Americans. As in many other holidays, Kwanzaa is based on ancient African harvest celebrations.
