City To Open 12 Small High Schools In Fall

The Department of Education released information Tuesday on 12 new high schools that will open in September, after the Panel for Educational Policy recently voted to close 22 of 25 public schools slated for closure.

Seven of the new high schools are opening in buildings of schools recently closed by the PEP.

For example, Paul Robeson High School in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, which is on the list of schools facing closure, will be the home of the new Pathways In Technology Early College High School, or "P-Tech."

Current eighth graders have the next 20 days to submit applications to their guidance counselors if they want to apply to any of these new schools.

This Saturday and Sunday, there will be a fair at Martin Luther King Jr. High School near Lincoln Square in Manhattan, where the schools' new principals will meet with perspective families and answer questions.

Manhattan
The Urban Assembly Gateway School for Technology (High School of Graphic Communications)

Queens
Jamaica Gateway to the Sciences (Jamaica High School)*
Maspeth High School (Metropolitan Avenue Campus)
Rockaway Collegiate High School (Beach Channel High School)*
