Empire State Building Won't Go Red For Cardinal Dolan Rep. Michael Grimm, eager to shift attention away from his possibly super sketchy donations, is trying to convince the Empire State Building to light up in red to honor newly elevated Cardinal Timothy Dolan. But if the ESB isn't honoring Mother Theresa, why honor Dolan? [ more › ]

BATTERY PARK CITY — When Stuyvesant High School's 3,000 students returned to their Battery Park City classrooms on Oct. 9, 2001, they thought the worst was over.

Less than a month earlier, the 14-to-18-year-olds had fled their school, some in tears and some numbly silent, as the World Trade Center collapsed just three blocks behind them.

The students at one of the city's most selective high schools were ready to get back to their routine of coursework and college applications, and ready to reassemble the pieces of their pre-9/11 academic and social lives.

But from their first breath of smoky, dusty air they took as they emerged from the subway that October morning, many of the students feared that they had returned to lower Manhattan too soon.

"We could see the fire burning [at Ground Zero] on our way to school," said Lila Nordstrom, who was a senior on 9/11.

"It was very clear it was not safe."

Hey buddy, can you spare a square?

The city is so hard up for cash that it's rationing toilet paper in women's public restrooms -- to the point where bathroom attendants are doling out a few measly squares per patron -- along the world-famous Coney Island boardwalk.

The Post witnessed stone-faced Parks Department employees leave toilet-paper dispensers empty last week and instead force astonished female beachgoers to form "ration lines" in the bathrooms.

Regina Ballone, 25, of Brooklyn visited a boardwalk bathroom at West 16th Street Wednesday and was "grossed out" at the thought of someone else handling her toilet paper.

"Never in my life have I experienced anything like this," she said. "I walked toward a stall, and a bathroom attendant stopped me by shouting, 'Hey,mami! There's no toilet paper here,' and she whipped out a big roll for me to grab some."

Beachgoers also have been forced to line up for their paltry allotment of the city's cheap, single-ply toilet paper at the boardwalk's other women's restroom at Stillwell Avenue.

Cops Figured Out Ways To Beat Electronic Scanners To Fix Tickets

Cops Figured Out Ways To Beat Electronic Scanners To Fix Tickets After it was revealed that more than 400 cops could be facing disciplinary charges in a massive ticket-fixing scheme, Mayor Bloomberg discussed the seriousness and implications of the probe, which has been going on for nearly three year, on Friday. However, he noted that since July, the NYPD has adopted a new computer system to track tickets; as a result, he said "it would be very hard to manipulate the system." It seems that some cops didn't think it was that difficult. [ more › ]
